Newman Documentary
London
Did you know that St. John Henry Newman played the violin? Did you know that as a boy he wrote two magazines in his school and acted in plays? One of his first drawings in a copy book was a rosary.
Day 1
Today we begin to shoot a documentary of the life of this great saint. Pope Leo XIII made him a cardinal in 1879 and it is very likely the Pope Leo XIV will declare him a doctor of the Church.
Our documentary will be filmed in two parts: in May in Europe and in June in the United States. On May 10th we will begin to film in London where Newman was born in 1801. He was the oldest of six children.
The family lived for some time in Holborn, near Bloomsbury (London). They had a summer home just outside of London in Ham. Newman’s father was a banker; his grandfather had been a grocer in Cambridge. His paternal grandmother taught him to read the Bible. Newman’s mother came from a French family. Young Newman studied at the Great Ealing Grammar School where he was a very good student.
Please pray for us as we plan and begin to shoot the documentary and pray for the spiritual fruits of this project.
Here is a prayer that you can say with us:
O God, who bestowed on your Priest Saint John Henry Newman the grace to follow your kindly light and find peace in your Church; graciously grant that, through his intercession and example, we may be led out of shadows and images into the fullness of your truth. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
(Memorial Mass of St. John Henry Newman)
